Occitania - Part 2: "... And the wind blows round ..."

not without curiosity I had seen the movie "And the wind blows round, first under George Rights, and the movie I have been in mind three things: the soundtrack, with a piece of music with accordions and hurdy-gurdy, the looks of the characters, words in Occitan ... In short, a nice movie, though dramatic and almost disturbing.

When I started on the path of the Maira Valley had only one wish, see the live facts about these places from the movie. And so I did.

The opening scenes are set in the Valley of Elva, snow and ice and gray skies. Extremely disturbing. In summer the valley I found after an afternoon of wandering in the valley looking for all le gole tramite le cartine topografiche, e devo dire che non è così terribile, ma la scenografia comunque merita, grazie a questa strada rubata alla montagna.

Ma il borgo in cui il film è ambientato era il piatto forte. Cercarlo non è semplicissimo, ma di questo dirò qualcosa alla fine. Nel film il borgo si chiama "Chersogno" (che è invece il nome di una cima posta nelle vicinanze) ma nella realtà il paese si chiama "Ussolo", ed è una frazione di Prazzo, in media Valle Maira.

Arrivare in questo paese è una cosa davvero particolare. Si trovano diversi turisti, gente forestiera che penso fosse lì per il medesimo motivo mio. Ma queste case sono mezze abbandonate e quelle che appaiono abitate semprano popolate di fantasmi. Ci siamo fermati una mezz'oretta e non siamo riusciti ad incontrare un residente: era un pomeriggio in settimana, forse bisognerebbe ritornarci alla domenica.

La riflessione finale è come il film sia stato vissuto in Valle Maira. Secondo me è stato sofferto, forse lo spaccato dei valligiani (secondo me comunque reale) che presentava non è stato apprezzato dagli stessi. E allora in Valle di Maria nulla celebra o semplicemente ricorda il film.

Ad Arezzo invece, dove è stata girata la parte comica de "La vita è bella" di Benigni sono state collocate delle colonnine con le foto di scena del film. In Valle di Maira nulla ricorda quel film, non un cartello indica Chersogno (alias Ussolo).

Valle Maira - Occitan, Part 1: How places

Every trip is an experience that always leaves us something. Good things and bad things . When you travel, perhaps your mind is more attentive to what you see, to understand aspects of the places you pass through. Of course, there's travel and travel. I do not want this evening to speak of the feelings that you can offer the crucible al sole di un anonimo villaggio turistico su uno dei mari più cristallini od economici, ma piuttosto di ciò che ha scosso in me l'attraversare una piccola parte di Occitania in un paio di giorni.

Iniziamo dai luoghi. Valle di Maira o Macra. Cuneese.

La valle si apre ampia e larga verso Cuneo. Lì la campagna è ancora piatta e ricca, e non senza sorpresa mi sono trovato estesi meleti che credevo parte integrante delle sole valli alpine tipicamente votate alla coltivazione della mela. E già qui ci si trova in una valle "sui generis" , abituati come siamo forse alle ben più strette vallate alpine delle nostre amate Prealpi Orobiche.

Dronero è il centro più importante della valle ma di fatto non è ancora inserito in un contesto valligiano più classico, che si incontra solo verso San Damiano Macra.

Particolare a Dronero è il Ponte del Diavolo che, soprattutto di notte, ha un non so che di inquietante. Ma è tutta la valle che porta con sé delle strane sensazioni.

La Natura è molto bella, incontaminata, in alta quota l'incontro con le marmotte è abituale. Spesso nuvole basse portano nei fondivalle una luce sinistra, mentre domina il silenzio o l'ululare del vento in alta quota. Un dedalo di sentieri e strade più o meno carrozzabili attraversa in lungo ed in largo la valle, dove sicuramente ci sono più strade che persone. I piccoli borghi sono spesso simili a "paesi ghost, while everywhere there are evidences of the religious places.
